Laser
Resurfacing may very well help fine lines and pigmentation but it
does not affect or remove blood vessels or flushing. In fact it can
worsen this condition. It further leaves you unsightly and always
requires time away from work and your usual every day activities.
Downtime is at least two weeks and up to a few months of redness in
the treated areas can occur. Laser resurfacing continuously has a
valuable place in the treatment of certain conditions of the face,
but it is not a substitute for Photo Rejuvenations.
If a patient suffers from mild acne scarring Photo Rejuvenation may
be indicated. Certain more shallow scars including fine lines will
be improved, but ice pick type acne scarring and deep scars will not
be helped. Laser resurfacing or dermabrasion may be indicated here.
If the scars are milder and do not respond to Photo Rejuvenation
alone then we often add another procedure called microdermabrasion
to the treatment schedule. This consists of a gentle painless and
safe series of abrasions of the skin in conjunction with the Photo
Rejuvenation. This technique is called
Photo Derma
Resurfacing and will be explained to you if it is
indicated for your skin.
Photo
Rejuvination is indicated in those individuals who do not wish to
forego the long healing process involved with Laser resurfacing and
are suitable candidates for the procedure. Candidates will be
seeking improvement in redness, flushing, sun damage, mild acne
scarring and aging skin such as fine lines and age spots. Laser
resurfacing candidates would be those with deeper wrinkling and
scarring not treatable with Photo Rejuvination or
Photo Derma Resurfacing
and who are aware of the down time
involved with laser resurfacing. Photo Rejuvination can be used
successfully following laser resurfacing to help relieve the redness
that some patients experience after laser resurfacing.
The cause of rosacea is
unknown. It is a fairly common, progressive skin disorder affecting
over 13 million Americans. Rosacea patients display an over all
red-flushing appearance of the face. Constant even painful flushing
is present in many afflicted with this disease. More severe cases
frequently experience acne like breakouts, eye irritation, mild
itching or burning. Symptoms can be exacerbated by heat, cold,
alcohol, sun exposure, certain foods and exercise.
